An Open Letter to Srini Mama

Dearest Srini Mama,

At the very outset many congratulations on crossing the coveted 2 lakh mark as far as Twitter Followers for your Twitter account. That is a huge following for a Parody account.

I have been wanting to write this letter for a long while but certain other commitments have kept me away from doing up this much important note. Better late than never though. I am one of your die hard fan of yours. Our association is not new. Ever since you have come on the Cricket Field I have followed you very closely and an avid enthusiast of each of your behind the scene moves. Rarely has a Parody got as much attention and as much traction that you have received on social media. I am sure that if you were to do a survey of Chennai residents alone you will come to a conclusion that seven out of ten respondents already know you.

I guess the reasons for your success has been of course your passionate and devoted following of the game. The ability to crunch down numbers, deep dive into important statistics and come up with relevant tweets has been much appreciated by a highly knowledgeable audience that only keeps coming to you asking for more. Never one for a slog shot or anything flashy, you have based your predictions purely on scientific analytics. You have endeared yourself to your followers by regularly reaching out to them, replying back and encouraging the follower fraternity with RT's where you have found them relevant.

It goes without saying that you have managed to keep the interest levels high with subtle humour and witty repartees as an when required. There are parodies that remain in people's minds for some time , but for you, the traction is ever on the rise, never willing to come down, almost a unsurmountable asking run rate.

So far, So Good Mama. But what do we expect going forward. This is my intention of sending this blog your way with the fond hopes that you will take inputs of a humble devotee of the game of cricket. You are the pride of Tamil Nadu. As someone famous quoted the other day and I quote"There is no one who follows the game of cricket but does not follow Srini Mama" True that and agree totally to what is being said. As would every other Srini Mama fan, I too would want you to expand your horizon. Here is some data for you to ponder about

The number of Tamil Speaking People living Worldwide

I am sure a lot of people from these countries already follow your handle. But how do you spread your handle further and wider. You would need to think about a strategy to come up with a solution. Beyond and above the organic growth that is happening due to the Tweets that you come up with. I guess that you are so lazer focussed on the content that a vital cog is screaming for your attention and that has to perhaps to do with a strategy at least in the initial stages for the top five countries above viz- India, Sri lanka, Malaysia, United Kingdom and South Africa. What works out in your favour is the fact that in all the five countries mentioned you will find cricket fanatics . The Tamil Diaspora still needs to be covered.

Some interesting Trivia about Twitter that you might want to consider.

  1. Twitter, the microblogging site has 23.2 million Monthly Active Users in India, which is 2nd largest in Asia-Pacific after Japan with 26 million MAUs.
  2. Over all, Twitter accounts for only 17% of Indian Social Network users.
  3.  Twitter is at 2nd place in terms of User Engagement after Facebook.
  4. Globally, Twitter has 320 million users, 140 million of Daily Active Users and 305 of Monthly Active Users.
  5. According to twitter, 80% of users tweet from mobile devices.
  6.  Every second, around 6000 tweets are sent which means over 350,000 tweets per minute, 500 million tweets per day and 200 billion tweets per year.
Clearly predicted to peg at around 34 million users by 2019 from the current 23.2 million monthly users.

And then some facts about Facebook:

1.    India has world’s largest number of Facebook Users with over 195 million users, overtaking US by over 4 million subscribers.
2.   There are 155 Million Monthly Active Users (MAUs) in India, of which 147 Millions MAUs access Facebook via Mobile Phones and 73 Million users are active daily on Mobiles.
3.    Top 5 countries accessing Facebook are India, USA, Brazil, UK and Germany.
4.    Key Facebook Users from India are aged 18-24, which is the largest and fastest growing population segment.
5.    A users revisits Facebook more than 3 times in a day.
6.  Indian users can access Facebook in 12 languages and 670 Million users are connected to at least one News Publishers page.
7.    In India, 76% of Facebook users are Men, and 24% users are women, which illustrates the barriers women face in India to access technology and information

Once again data insights show that you would need to devote more of your time and effort towards Facebook. There is much work to be done on this front. One thing that I love about your handle is the fact that your tweets are harmless, you do not troll anyone, stick to Cricket and out of the games boundaries you tweet about movies. There are a large number of parody accounts who quite unknowingly are stepping into multiple areas in a bid to chase numbers and hence are traversing into a declining growth rate. I do not wish to get into a comparison carnival because that would be a big injustice to you as well as the other parodies who in their own right are trying their best to entertain people. You would need to continue to do what you are doing, also how you can spread your wings to the other parts of the country and the rest of the globe.

In conclusion I would only want to say that I am just one amongst two lakhs of your followers. In a conversation with a fellow Twitter affendico, he was of the opinion that Srini mama is a Brand and if he had the wherewithal to invest in a Brand it would be Brand Srini Mama. Yes that is what I would want Srini Mama to morph into, Brand Mama loved by millions the world over.

Disclaimer: This post is not a promotional post for Srinimama but to highlight the good length areas that Srinimama bowls in and the areas of improvement. I feel that I have listed the opportunities and the scopes for improvement that Srini Mama needs to take up in the years to come.

Truly Yours
