Close Encounters of a Starry Kind

Image
Its been quite a while since I last blogged, perhaps a combination of lethargy and a few other assignments caught me wrong footed, but each time it is the love of words that brings me back to writing. Not many of you would actually know that my twitter handle is tallboykarthik. A lot of people have asked me and felt that its quite a queer handle. However its a combination of factors that have led me to deciding on this handle: One-All the Karthiks had been taken. Two- the number options that Twitter was offering me -Karthik2004 seemed almost like a prisoner tag being attached to me. So ruled it out. Three-Always feel that I am young at heart, however far age might take me on an onward march, so boy got fixed. Four- I am the tallest in my family, had to have a unique characterestic that the world would know me by, so in walked Tall, put them all together and you have tallboykarthik Five-The Reason will be revealed by the time we get to the end of this tale. My last blog w

Coaching @ Gennext: A Parents Perspective

I have seen stars making it big in the field of sports. Take for instance the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. he had the good fortune of a coach like Ramakant Achrekar. Hope I got the spelling right. However there have been quite a few success stories who have made it it to the top by sheer passion or by love of the game. Some make the cut to the top of their art while others may make the cut as successful coaches. Here is where my story begins. I went to drop my sons to their cricket coaching sessions in T. Nagar, Chennai- Gennext Academy which is run by Ravichandran Ashwin and his team. I had the rare opportunity to bump into Ashwin himself. To say that I was stumped by the champion bowlers modesty would sound a little understated. Clearly I was well out of the crease in my thoughts that superstars belong to some other planet. I had to be proven wrong. We did have a small chat about coaching and here is what Ashwin had to say. He quickly introduced me to his colleagues and all of t

There is so much to be written about the food we eat, the processes involved even before we consume food and that is exactly where the oomph factor comes in as far as food is concerned. The aroma, the flavors, the spices, the ingredients, the right time required for cooking all required to make a great dish. Practice of Medicine is an Art

I have been going through pages after pages to be inspired enough to write this blog. Also because I feel myself very close to the said subject. My family has given birth to new generation doctors who would be rightful names in the field of medicine. Let them corner all glory and fame. Let them be much sought after. Let them be considered as the best among medical practitioners. However I would like them to remember  a big rider. Let them practice their trade with a smile on their faces and a huge heart . Today Medical colleges churn out students in thousands all of them well ground, stretched to their limits by the rigorous study and skill required to be practiced. I was in a conversation with my niece the other day, a newly inducted doctor by study. aspires to do her higher studies in the form of specialized study in her chosen field. Believe me its never easy to choose to be in this profession. Needs sincerity, patience and hard work. Now there would be tens of thousands who

Uttar Pradesh- The Political Battlefield

Image
Over the last few weeks we have seen India's Largest state being converted into a Political Battlefield. Literal slugfests, Political rallies, Leaders trading punches and receiving counter punches and finally it all boils down to the Janta-Janardhan which side they cast their valuable vote. Which button gets pressed the maximum number of times will decide who gets to rule UP for the next five years. I don't claim to be a political analyst but would like to see the entire scenario from the ring side view, as a rank outsider and see if it makes sense. UP being the largest state, this elections could throw up a few interesting data points: Demonetization and its bearing on the UP electorate. This could come as a huge boost for the Narendra Modi government at the centre, that what was perceived as a dampener and show stopper by the opposition has had no bearing in the minds of the common man.  Critical also being the largest state, a party coming into power with absolut
