Why is it That the South of the Country always gets a raw Deal.

At the outset wishing all my friends the world over a Very Happy Diwali. Back to my blogging ways and random thoughts. However I would like to take feedback from the readers of my blogs as well. These are purely observations and readers may well choose to disagree with what I have expressed over here. A healthy debate is always welcome. Now this blog will represent a series of questions that run across my puzzled brain and I do seek answers.

Why is is that when it rains in Mumbai or in Delhi, its a war like scenario, people are walking home 30-40 kilometers whereas in Chennai,Bangalore, Hyderabad a downpour occurs, its just like any other day. A Rajdeep or even an Arnab will take to the roads and highlight the suffering of the monsoon affected people while in the South their representatives are not to be seen anywhere. We are as much a part of the country as a Mumbai or a Delhi. We are as much Indian as the North or the West is then why is this difference on account of. This is as far as Media is concerned.

I was watching the popular show Kaun Banega Crorepati yesterday on Sony TV. While I am a die hard fan of Big B and no doubting about the fact. There are people from small towns and villages making it big. I am very happy for them. People who are downtrodden and in heaps of poverty get to make a fortune. Great News. I only see a Noida, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Mumbai, Kolkata. Why not a Madurai, Trichy,Theni, Bengaluru,Mysore,Dharwad, Kochi,Chennai,Hyderabad, Vizag. Why discriminate against the south. Now I have just given one example of one TV show. Take any North based TV show and you will find hardly any representation from the South.  Why is it that we are always having to fend for ourselves.

Lets come to Sports, one game that I constantly follow is Cricket. Why is that Cricketers from the South are always under the scanner. I recall a world class player like VVS Laxman was constantly having to prove himself. the list is endless. Dinesh Karthik, Shreyas Iyer-though a South Indian has based himself from the West. If we go on like this the list will be endless and more skeletons will tumble out of the closet. A Krishnamachari Srikkanth, A Ravichandran Ashwin are exceptions to this rule. They have survived because of their individual tenacity, brilliance and sheer will power to survive.  Else we will have to fend for ourselves again, dominate in a sport where the base is South like Badminton. Again all credit to Pullela Gopichand and the way he gave birth to his world class institute in Hyderabad.

All of it has to change and for it to happen, curators across different professions be it media, sports or movie have to wear a different kind of lens, that of scourging for talent across the nation irrespective of regional biases. Until that happens I see that this North versus South continue to happen and the bitterness continue to linger. Food for Thought Ladies and Gentlemen. Have a Lovely Diwali. I only wish and pray this festive season that we come out as a united nation, together in all aspects and issues, fighting for each other, that is the only way for all round development.
