An Open Mail to BCCI-How many Srirams will we continue to lose?

Dear Honourable Members of BCCI,

Yesterday I had written a blog mail to Sridharan Sriram on why he chose to take up an Australian assignment? He has chosen to answer the question in a most humble and dignified manner. Now he has said that He was rejected by TNCA and APSCA to coach the respective state teams. Can you please answer what is the yardstick used to judge a would be coaches talent?

Our loss is the gain of the Australian Team and see how it has affected us. Collectively we just managed a little over 200 runs in both the innings put together. Its an open secret how Indian pitches would be prepared to make visiting teams dance to the tune of our spinners. This time around the Australians are far better prepared to handle the situation. Is this just the beginning of the end of our famed domination at home or will it see the countries premier body in handling the situation in a more professional manner. Will we see a more professional approach when it comes to important inputs like coaching :

It is quite possible that India turns the table in the next few matches and wins the series, has happened before in 2001 as well. So in that case would it be time to celebrate one more series win or analyse what went wrong. The intention of this blog is to constantly hit the right length areas unlike the first time around:

Agreed that Anil Kumble is the right person to coach the Indian team, given his experience but what is the process of identifying potential coaches? Is there a database that we are constantly looking at? Are we looking at a list of Ranji players who have represented the state but not the country?

What is the process of interviewing a candidate who has been approached to be a coach? Does the board prepare an exhaustive job description for the post of a coach? Remember seeing one for the post of India coach but is the same system followed when it comes to the respective state boards?

What is the process followed when a candidate is rejected? Are there reasons offered as to why a particular candidate was not qualified for the job? Does the parent body BCCI demand to know who all had applied for the job? What was the criteria for selection of a particular candidate as coach? What was the reason for his/her rejection? Most importantly What is it that the Australians see in Sriram that we failed to see?

An emotional Karthik yesterday and there was an outburst against Sriram. A data oriented Karthik today demands to know what ails the system. According to me this loss is a important landmark in the history of the game, Will we change our ways or elate in a series win if that happens. There may be many more Srirams that may be getting lost in the system and in due course get picked up by other boards.

On a corporate sounding is this what happens when a person seeks an opportunity outside of the country? Is it just that there are greener pastures that present itself or is it a lack of opportunities within our country itself.

On a parallel note Yesterdays blog was a self learning piece for me. Lot of brickbats received but all well intentioned. For a writer in today's world it is easiest to publish a blog and even simpler to take it off at the click of a button. For me its important to stay afloat in the the blog space, collect feedback good or bad, accept your mistakes and move forward.

Thanks Sriram for writing in and sorry for having asked you a whole lot of wrong questions to a right person. God Bless.....
