Smoke, smoke and raging bulls
I keep coming back to my favorite pastime which is to write and highlight issues that we face in our everyday life. Hope is that my blogs would make an impact and bring about social awareness at the same time bring about a positive change.
Today morning i woke up to the beating of drums, of course i knew that there is festivity in the air. I however did not want to smoke in pollutants into my healthy lungs and that was one of the main reasons i did not want to step out initially, but then the call of duty and a responsible citizen does propel me to capture those hazy moments.
Celebration, Yes. Health hazard , Definitely a big no. Why would people even want to pollute the entire environment to create a health hazard. There is enough disease around that we need to contend with. We do not need more. Not only that the kind of smoke that gets created by burning plastics and tyres causes visibility issues, delaying flights, throwing normal life out of gear and causing hardships to the public.
I would want to also add by saying that it could possibly affect the flaura and fauna, affecting marine life. When the dust settles down it has to come back and rest on all that we grow. So is it not irony. Our Farmers sweat it out and grow the crops that we consume and then the smoke and pollution renders them uneatable. My take on this would be to wash your vegetables and fruits in warm water before you consider them fit for consumption. Have a look at the pictures below and have a look for yourself as to how pollution can affect life. The Sun is all powerful and pervasive. In these conditions even the sun was struggling to get in a peek through the smoke.
I did take a stroll from my house to capture a few moments but was rendered teary eyed after taking in all that smoke. Imagine those on two wheelers , must be having a torrid time today.
The second issue pertains to that of banning the Jallikattu- an age old tradition that is followed in the state of Tamil Nadu. So lets tie up a human being, fill his eyes up with chilly powder, poke him, prod him, bite at his legs get him raging mad, why not, because he has a mouth and he can shout that it pains, but a bull cannot express its pain, because the bull cannot speak. Besides the bull will rage on, injure a few hundreds, kill a few perhaps. We would call it culture and tradition. Why do we support it, well obvious answer would be to appease the voter. Please lets have Jallikattu but with a rider, lets have all the politicos, leaders , actors shouting in its support thrown into the arena, facing the angry bull. Is anyone prepared for the challenge. See how many people are battering a single bull. Poor Creature, Is is required?
