Day4-365 Challenge- Zombies at Bangalore
I was witness to a video game that a few kids were playing. In the game they are licensed to wipe out an entire army of zombies. What are zombies? Well the Cambridge dictionary describes a Zombie as: a person who has no energy, seems to act without thinking, and does not notice what is happening. I will add to it as per my own understanding. They are people who have lost their mental faculties and act as beasts without any reasoning or being aware of their sorroundings.
The incidents that happened in Bangalore on the New Year Eve was unprecedented. I was wondering so what, happens every year in the city. Then I happened to see a TV interview of the victims and a few of the eyewitnesses. Young girls had been groped and molested. One of the eyewitness even mentioned how a group of 300-400 people had accosted two young girls, pushing them around.
Shocking is the least that I can say. I am aghast that this has happened in a city like Bangalore. Where was law? Where were the Policemen and above all where was the conscience of the law abiding citizens. Does Mob mentality mean that people lose their power of discrimination between good and evil and are transformed into zombies. Advocates of Moral policing say that its because young girls dress indecently, the men turn into what they are-beasts or zombies.
Imagine the plight of the girls. The impression that has been stamped in their minds will be tough to wipe off for a lifetime. To celebrate the birth of a new year is one thing but to transform into beasts of this nature is totally uncalled for. Going back to the example of the game I was watching, the zombies were moving aimlessly on the streets, not knowing what to do, baying for blood and getting as inhuman as possible. On the whole the game was just blood and gore. Are we as a society headed towards zombie culture.
Guess it calls for more stringent laws against eve-teasing and molestation. More than anything I feel our education system itself has failed us once again. Somewhere Parents have left their children astray and this has led to a total degradation of human values. The most shocking aspect of this incident is that the criminals involved in this case were hundreds of them, while innocent bystanders could do nothing but stand and watch.
